Revised official figures released in December 2024 revealed that the UK economy experienced zero growth between July and September 2024, further highlighting the ongoing challenges.

The additional financial burdens many larger employers face—such as increases in the National Minimum Wage and Employer National Insurance liabilities—are naturally leading to more cautious hiring practices. These measures may cause some businesses to delay or scale back their recruitment plans.

  1. Employee Retention Challenges

Retention is becoming as critical as recruitment. Organisations are investing heavily in their employer branding and employee retention strategies. While these efforts benefit employees and organisations, they also create recruitment challenges. Employees are less likely to seek new opportunities, reducing the prospective candidate pool. Simultaneously, companies with strong retention strategies may reduce their demand for new hires, leading to fewer job vacancies.
